Oil Grade

Postby Joe T on Thu Aug 17, 2006 3:55 pm

I just recently purchased my 2000 Boxster well 3 months ago new enough. I changed the oil with Mobile one 0/40 or I like to call it sewing machine oil it sure is runny.I want to upgrade maybe 5 /40 or so I live in so cal it never really gets that cold what do you think will protect the engine better? Also what grades are you using in your boxster's?

The 0/40 will work great and provide slightly better mileage, more power and cooler temps than a thicker oil. Porsche recommends it, and you want the thinnest oil possible. That is what I used in my Boxster, and use in my street 996 in our very moderate SoCal climate. For racing my turbo in the desert, I do use a 10/50, but I think that is a bit extreme for your usage.
