Gt Products Fiberglass Dashboard

Postby harnishclan on Thu Sep 09, 2004 2:05 pm

Anybody have any ideas or opinions about GT Products fiberglass in general or their dashboards for 944's (Item # 397R or 274)? I am thinking about installing one on my slowly transforming 944.

Call Tim at Mind Over 858-693-9911. He has installed several of these and I think he prefers Getty. Apparently, they all take a bunch of trimming (dont believe the "bolt on" claim) and reworking to make them fit and look great. Anyway, I know can give you an earful on the subject.

I bought a bunch of stuff from GT and it was ok at best. Their weight claims are ridiculous and the parts need a LOT of work to fit, but I think that is std with fiberglass aftermarket parts.

They claimed the fiberglass hood saved 52 lbs. My metal hood only weighed 40 lbs. Same story with sunroof, rear glass and fenders. About half their claimed savings is closer to what you will find in reality.

I was also surprised to learn that installation is twice the purchase price of most parts, so be sure to factor that in as even the easy stuff turns out to be very hard to do yourself.

I have purchased three different pieces from GettyDesign up in LA. All three pieces fit the first time with no modification. I have been impressed with their work.
