Engine stalls when oil tank cap removed.

I just finished installing a 3.2 motor in my 1977 911S. Now when I remove the oil tank cap to check the level in the tank, the engine stalls. The engine runs really well other than that. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Erik

There is a restrictor that goes into the oil tank at the breather fitting near the oil filler cap.

It is missing because a 77 doesn't have one. They started in 81.
The idle should drop slightly when the cap is removed but not die.
It looks like a tiny cone with a small hole in the end of the cone.

Steve,
Thanks. By the way, I've run into an intermittent coil failure twice now, once on this 3.2 motor and once on my SC a couple years ago. The intermittent nature of the problem made it a little difficult to diagnose. How common is this (or is it my 'electric personality' interfearing with the coil field)?

Thanks again,
Erik

Ah... let's just say it's not common...
