CV Joint wear

Hey all,

When should you replace CV joints?

1. only when they start clunking
2. when they have a bunch of clearance/wear even if they're not clunking.

when I have my car on a lift, I can grab the axle shaft and rock the wheel back and forth a few degrees . . . this is rocking in rotation NOT in camber . . . one side has had the cv joints replaced at some point but it still has what feels like quite a bit of wear.

Thanks,

Sea
