Can I put a 914 2.0L (built from various years 1.8L and 2.0L 914 parts) in my 1972 914 and call it a complete engine upgrade (even thou 1972 never did not come with the 2.0L option) or do I have to count the points individually for the heads, displacement increase, etc?

Or

Can I put a 2.0L in my 1972 and run in CS or CP (and once again, even thou 1972 never did not come with the 2.0L option)?

And

Can you build a 2.0L from 1.8L and 2.0L parts and classify it as a stock 2.0L?

So is the initial clarification based on the type of motor or is it the year of car and the options based on what was available?

The way the #4.L rule for engine swaps (HP upgrade points) reads, it can only be taken when a completely stock engine of higher horsepower (with no internal modifications) is used. It seems to me that if you are swapping parts from several motors, you will need to calculate the points using items "F thru K", for displacement change, etc.

Yes, if you take points for everything that is different on your 2.0 914 than a stock 2.0 914 (this includes all aspects of the car, not just the engine). Read the update/backdate rule and the clarification of it on the Rules page.

Not if there are any differences between the engine you build and the stock 2.0 engine. I do not know enough about 914 engines in general, or your particular build details, but if the heads, valves, cams, compression ratio, distributor or induction you use are different than a stock 2.0 in any way, you cannot call it a "stock" engine swap, and points must be taken for each individual modification to the engine.

I assume you mean "classification" here and not "clarification"? Once again, study the update/backdate provision in the rules. Any 914/4 can be updated/backdated to any other 914/4 model,as they are all in the same "model range". See the rules clarification (#1) on the Zone 8 site.
