I 'm in agreement with Kary, for the most part (can you believe it!?! :shock: :lol: ) and Steve G.: If you can do it: keep the cab for cruisin' and fun, and down the road, get a 944spec or SC.

And above all else: have fun in whatever you drive.

That cabs not going anywhere... to much personal time and effort spent on making it just right. And no one would give me what I would want for it. The next track car just may be a 944-spec/GP to go racing with my daughter.
I'm already collecting parts...

Excellent reasons to look at a different car as a racer. :D

I suggest you contact Tim Comeau and arrange for one of his "arrive and drives" with a 944-SPEC. The 944s are a LOT of fun (and Tim is a great instructor in the "arrive and drive"). While they may have 2/3rds our HP, 944s are also very light, and they rotate very easily in the turns.

A 944-SPEC could be had, completely set up and ready to race, for around $14K to $16K (or more if you want a really fancy paint job). And - if you ding it up, a little work with a hammer and it is as good as new. :lol:

Seriously, that is probably the best car for you to think about to move up to DEs and even up to TTs and onwards. Much safer than our street cars (with full roll cage, arm restraints, racing fuel tank), a lot of fun, and the lower power means you can't get yourself into as much trouble as fast as with a high-horsepower car. And of course, there is the maintenance - how much to repair a ding in your car today?

Of course, on the downside, the 944s typically don't have some of the newer safety gadgets to protect you from yourself: no limited-slip (can you say inside wheelspin?); no ABS (watch for flat spots); and no rev limiter (oopses here can be kind of expensive).

If I could convince my wife to let me buy a third car (technically a fourth, counting our MG "planter"), I would get a 944 so I could DE and TT.

I hate to say this but I think this is excellent advice :idea:

This dovetails well with our current plans (except for my runaway imagination???) ...

We need to build a house on our plot as the very patient Linda has spent the last two years living in an Diesel Motorhome ... besides ... we need a big garage, anyway :-)

Seriously, though, I really appreciate the "reality check" ... I really do love the Cab and I just need to let it be the nice street car it is and help us learn until we are ready for something else!

Sorry, Steve. Bad punctuation in my last post. I wasn't suggesting you sell your cab. That note was for Pshipman. I'd never suggest you lose the "911SG." (That was bad writing on my part. ) Who else could possibly own an 'SG' except the one who built it, and who owns the rights of the initials? :wink:

However: now that you've mention it, I didn't know you were going the Spec route in the future. Sure makes sense with your girls growing up so fast.

What will ever happen to the 914-6? I'd guess that's a topic for a new thread.

914? Oh, that dirty "used to be red" car in the corner? That's a long story. I need to find time to build and sell an engine in order to pay for the engine I want to build... So all I need is a lot of time and money. Oh, and maybe some extra motivation. :roll:
