How to remove collectors / headers from a 911?

Postby martinreinhardt on Tue Dec 18, 2007 4:44 pm

What tools are the correct tools to remove headers with heat exchangers from a 964? (angle grinder is very tempting at this point :D )

So far I managed to get the four hex bolds lose with a T-handle hex 8mm tool. But the other ten 13mm bolts are impossible to get too. :grr:

It didn't work with a 13mm wrench, a 13mm socket fits but there is no room left for the wrench even with a flex extention or U-joint.

Whould a double shocket wrench be the correct tool?

I'm pretty sure KI class allows heat exchangers, so there really is no need to remove them. :)

Martin,
Don't you have B&B exhaust?
If so there are special tools.
If stock 964 it is easy, stop by tomorrow and I will show you one on the hoist.

Yeah, but it felt a bit heavy and you have been pulling away from me on a strait line for too long.

Thanks Steve, it's the stock 964 which I am being challenged by. :)

I cut mine off my 993 with a grinder and cutting wheel. Not difficult, just take your time, say 1 hour vs. 25 minutes to ensure that you don't cut into the header tubing.
