944 spec rule change

Postby Gunter on Mon Feb 11, 2008 11:30 am

Does this new rule below also apply to our AX/DE/Time Trial events or just NASA?
I just put new RA1 on the spec. Hate to think that we'll run practce on the RA1's but have switch to the R 8888 during timed runs...
I guess we could try to burn some serious rubber between now and then...

"14.10 Tires
As of June 2, 2008 the Toyo R888, size 225/50/15 must be used during competition. The Toyo
RA1 may be used during practice and all non timed or non competition sessions."

Out of the Z-8 rules booklet
944 Spec
944 Cup
944 Super Cup 944 models conforming to the class definitions
sanctioned by the National Auto Sport Association
(http://www.nasaproracing.com). Entrants participating in these classes will
be responsible for certifying a car entered in one of these classes as meeting
the appropriate class definition. They will bring any unresolved concerns to
the attention of the event chairperson.

So yes unless you 944 guys have an agreement... can't understand why anyone would protest you using a slower tire?

So Steve,

Is the R888 considered slower than the RA1? Or is it the other way around?

I would say the R888 is faster from what I have seen and the schooling I got this weekend.

I've run both and feel the R888's are faster. But then I'm not one of the fast guys either.

I third that... the R888 tire is impressive. I did some major rear suspension adjustment, and put a fresh set of 888's on and my car has NEVER felt so good.
