I have looked all over and can't find information about the correct placement of the sub belt. What angle should the sub belt be to the seat and driver.

It varies by manufacturer. I have the instructions for Schroth, if that happens to be what you need.

Ron, it depends on whether you are using a 5 or 6-point harness. For a 5-point, with single anti-sub strap, the Schroth site says: "Anti-submarining strap routing in any seating position must follow the tangential touching of the occupant’s chest and groin. Such routing is a compromise to help reducing the risk of crotch and groin injuries during a frontal impact." This may result in the anchor point being slightly in front of the sub-hole in your seat, following the 20° or so lay-back angle of your torso (and thus your shoulder straps) down to the floor.

For a 6-point installation, with dual anti-sub strap, they say: "Anti-submarining strap routing shall be vertical down from the groin, or preferably approximately 20° back. Anchor points shall be approximately 100 mm [4”] lateral apart from each other." Thus your anchor points would be either directly under the sub-hole, or up to a 20° angle back from it on the floor, separated by about 4".

Here is the complete document from Schroth. Their instructions seem to be the most complete that I have found.

Yeah, the Schroth info is the best I've seen. I have a CD from them. It even has video of a shoulder harness failing to restrain after not being positioned or locked down correctly.

The sequence in the Schroth guide showing the sled tests with and without a Hans device are eye opening.
