Couple of other details, from what I know; the '69 912, like the 911, has a slightly longer wheel-base, also - slightly different seats (higher back with head rest), and a 5-speed 901 transaxle than some of the earlier 912's ... as far as I know, anyway. Oh. The dash has slightly different cosmetics, too.
Very cool car to drive and track. Extremely well balanced, quick and nimble. Just a tad under-powered. Keep the rev's under 5800 rpm and the motor should last a good long time, IMHO.
Jim B. speaks of the 912E. It has the similar body style, etc. of the '74 911, with bigger bumpers, etc. The 2-litre Jetronic puts out some decent power, too.
I don't think you can compare a 912 to a 911. Apples to cider, IMHO.
