I saw that gland nut part number mentioned in a couple of threads on Pelican. The best I can figure is it USED to be documented in Koni's catalog. It's description seems to have vanished from their current catalog. Paragon lists it also, and again they have no description on their website. Even weirder, a Koni tech emailed me stating that the only way I could use the 1039sports was to buy Boge struts!

Were you looking in their Racing shock catalog or the Street shock catalog?

The parts are in the racing catalog, unless they have recently been deleted. I have found the best way to get individual Koni parts is to go directly to the Koni Rebuild Centers listed in the racing catalog and not a dealer who is used to dealing in street stuff and never knows what you are asking for or how to get it.

The rebulld centers are (Truechoice is who I have used and the have been very knowledgeable (in the past anyway) and sell the Koni racing shocks as well):

Thanks, Bob
Is this the catalog you mean? http://www.koni-na.com/pdf/KONI_Motorsports_2008.pdf

Now that my front is set one of the rebuild centers should be able to help me on the REAR shocks for my car. I've been told that I'll need a custom externally adjustable shock for the rear of my '71 911.

Here is a picture of the ones that are supposed to work. forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=3321

Thanks,

Gordon-

Yes, that is the racing catalog, note on page 13 that the top nut you used is listed, as well as racing strut inserts 8610 and 8611.

The link I posted earlier was to another edition of this catalog that is shown on the Koni website.

Note, also on page 13 of the catalog you site, there are instructions on how to install an 8611 or 8610 racing strut insert into an existing strut and this is essentially the process I used to fit my struts with inserts.

For my 914/6, because the double adjustable 8611 was not available at the time, I used the single adjustable 8610 installed into Koni S struts.

All I had to fabricate was a simple, drop in spacer of aluminum that allowed a gentle press fit when the top nut was tightened on the insert. It worked great, was simple and I had an external adjustment. If I did it again I would go with the double adjustable 8611.

I would talk to one of the Koni rebuilders about your rear shock problem. They may have a solution.

Note, that if you revised the 911's rear upper mounting design, there are a lot of racing choices. The Racers Group in Sonoma used to make such a solution and perhaps the Koni rebuilder at Infineon raceway may have worked with them on this since they are both on Arnold Dr. in Sonoma. Just a thought.

Cheers, Bob
