MORE grip

Postby LUCKY DAVE on Thu Oct 15, 2009 10:47 pm

So,, what's the consensus on the current stickiest 100+ treadwear tire? (compared to RA-1's that is, we all know about those).
I need some new ones, and RA1's are hard to find in some sizes - impossible in others.
Like everyone else, I need to go faster

I've used the Nitto NT01 several times on my BMW. Compared to RA1, I feel they have more grip, very Even wear, but not as long a life as the RA1.

Pricing is quite good on them if you order from Discount Tire Direct. I checked pricing at the Balboa shop, they wanted about $15 more per tire, then another $15 or more (can't recall) for mounting. I ended up ordering online, shipped to my house, then found a small shop that would mount and balance for $54 total, so $13.50 per tire. Same shop also did a 4 wheel alignment with me in the car to my specs for $85.

Dave:

Rumor has it that so many people grumbled about the R888 (replacements for the RA-1) that Toyo has agreed to re-tool and continue with RA-1 production. How long it takes to return to full production is unknown.

So, keep your fingers crossed that this rumor is true. I know I'm holding out for the RA-1's myself.

According to "the source" in Arizona, the first of the new RA-1's will arrive around December 1. Not sure about all of the sizes, but at least for the SPEC cars, we will again be happy! :D :D :D

Chuck,

How much grip does an RA1 lose on those last 2 or 3 heat cycles running on the cords? :roflmao:

My source indicates the only sizes will be those for SCCA spec classes, which are mostly 15". :(

Kris' input on the December 1 date matches responses I've gotten as well. Really bent the ear of the Toyo rep at Porsche Parade this year about the failings of the R888s -- and our love affair with the RA-1's that could likely result in taking a GREAT deal of business to other tire manufacturers.

So, Kris, is the "source" recovering well from the throat surgery?
