Help! I can't fit in my 928!

Hi all,

I have an 81' 928 that I will eventually be bringing to AX events. The driver seat is all the way back, but the controls to lower it are not working. Even when I do get them fixed at 6'3" I am still too close to the wheel and peddles. Does anyone have suggestions for how to relocate the seat or should I just put a race seat in? Also if I do go that route might anyone have one of those sitting around that I can buy, beg, or steal?

Thanks,
Mark

A thought about the 928 seats.

I have spare 78/79 911SC seats, without any electrical stuff. If they will bolt to where the '82 928 electric seats attach,
that could be a solution. With a racing shell you'll need a 5/6-point harness, but the stock seat can use the stock belt.

Anyone out there know if the rail locating holes are the same for 911SC and 928?

Yes, if you have a sunroof you will have trouble fitting your helmet in under the roof, even adjusted down as low as possible. But I am about that height and it is possible to drive events with your helmet rubbing on the headliner, but you need to get the seat down. :banghead:
I believe the Porsche seats all use the same mounting bolts so an SC seat should bolt in.
It is possible to get more headroom by going to a racing seat and bolting it to the floor, but you lose any adjustability and if any short people need to drive they will not be happy.
You can also put in a race seat on sliders and it will likely be lower than stock but not as low as bolting to floor.
An extended hub steering wheel is also helpful as it allows you to recline the seat more and still reach the wheel.

Thanks for the advice Greg. It does indeed have a sunroof and unfortunatly (or fortunatly) the headliner is in such great shape I cant justify pulling it out. So we will give the SC seat a try right after I don my ski mask and make my way into PDY's garage. :D

Steve,
Thanks for the suggestion. :) Actually I did consider it, but the seat works fore and aft so I was guessing that there isnt a different fuse for up and down. Orrr...are Porsche seats mulitfused?

No, there are no fuses in the seat and only one power source.
If it only works in one direction you have a bad seat switch.
You can just replace it and your seat will work normally.
Early 928 power seats are different from all other Porsche power seats.
Lucky for you the switches are about 1/2 the price of the others... but nobody stocks the switch.
They are all the same 92861314400 part number and run about $66 each
As a quick fix you can just swap the good for/aft switch with the bad up/down switch.
They just pop out and plug in, not a switch and attached harness like all the other model power seats.
Any of the local dealers or independents can order the switch for you.
