Does anyone know a source for the Kumho V710 in 205/55 - 16 ?

Can someone confirm that there will be no rule change for tire points for next year?

I wasn't aware that the V710 was ever produced in that size. Kumho does not show it in the V710 specs. http://www.kumhousa.com/Tire_SizeChart.aspx?id=e8fb9151-1aba-48eb-8017-b13bc6b9e6b2 There are no 205 tires shown in 16" diameter in their current list, only 215 width and up. The only 205s are in 14" and 15" diameter. Hoosier makes a 205/45-16 in the A6 and R6 compound, but not a 55 aspect ratio. You might have to go to BFG R1, Yoko A048 or Michelin Pilot Sport Cup to get that size in an R-compound tire.

Can someone confirm that there will be no rule change for tire points for next year?

None of the proposals for increasing points on tires were forwarded by the committee for approval by the presidents this year, AFAIK, so I think it is safe to say there will be no change.

So now the question is what size to use. I guess I can use 225s on the front and 245s on the rear. I can take two more points, no problem. My main concern would be making sure they would fit. Right now I'm running 205 and 225s on 7 and 8 x 16s which are a close fit.
Or should I use the shorter 215s on front and 225s on the rear? Or go with the BFG? Opinions?

Doesn't your car have the RS or SC/Carrera flares in the rear? Most of the RS-clones used to run 275s on 9" Fuchs in the rear, with a few mods for clearance (negative camber, spring plate bolts shaved, oil lines rerouted, fender lips rolled). A 245 on an 8" rim should be a relatively easy fit under RS/SC/Carrera flares. 225s in the front on a 7" rim should be OK too--I used to run 245s in the front of my RS-clone on 8" 944T 23mm-offset Fuchs wheels with the stock fenders, but I did have to roll the fender lips.
YMMV,
TT

Tom you are forgetting details in your advancing age... ;-)

265-16's on 9's in the rear (275's are only 17's) with max negative camber, big torsion/sway bars rolled fenders, and oil line modification. Your results may vary...
245's on 8's in the back is cake, using 7x16ET23's from a 944 turbo with 225's is the sweet (easiest) setup for the front.
I have a set of these with 225 V-Racers if you would like to check them out.
911's can vary greatly from on year to another. 8/9x16 fit perfectly on my SC and one of my customers SC's is the same and they don't fit at all...

Let me know if you want to look at them.

Oops! You're right--265/45s were as big as you could get the Kumhos in 16". Many people went to 17s for that reason and were able to fit the 275s in back on an RS-clone (I think Dan A. is running that setup now). My only beef with the 265/45 was that it was a pretty tall tire and final drive ratio was higher--not as good for autox as the 9x23x15" cantilever slicks! If I had kept that car, I would have put a setup on it like Paul's--wide 15" rims w/ 245 & 275 Hoosier A6s for autox.

...using 7x16ET23's from a 944 turbo with 225's is the sweet (easiest) setup for the front.
The 911 7x16" Fuchs are also ET23, the only difference is that the 951 7x16" Fuchs has more brake caliper clearance on the spokes to accommodate the bigger 951 brakes, I think.

8/9x16 fit perfectly on my SC and one of my customers SC's is the same and they don't fit at all...

Thus the "YMMV"--there can be a pretty surprisingly wide variation between individual cars, for sure.

You are correct Tom, I forgot about that.
Both are the same except the spokes are kicked out of the 951 wheel for the caliper clearence...
I guess there are still some viable brains cells left in there...
That's one point for you and one for me...

Yea, I believe all the 7" Fuchs are the same, it's the 944 8"s that have a different offset. At any rate my fronts are 7 x16 with a 911 part number.
I'm thinking that 225 and 245 with my 7 and 8 inch wheels is the way to go. I have two sets of 7 and 8 by 16s so I'd like to make them work. (maybe I shouldn't have raised my front spindles after all :? )
At any rate my camber is pretty much maxed out and I am running 22 and 28 torsions. The car is real low, however.

Steve, yea, I would like to check out your wheels. What did you have in mind?

Should these tires be heat cycled before being used?

I was just at DISCOUNT TIRE and they don't offer heat cycling.

Discount Tire on Genessee did last time I checked. Ask for Gerry Gutierez, the manager.
