BTU's in; Heat out.

It's all good. I had a chance to stretch the legs of the 3.6L at the PDS this weekend. With greater breathing and more fuel, she scoots ... oh yeah.

Now, I have to manage the btu in - heat out issue.

The current set up is a Euro 23-row brass cooler with a Spal 300-CFM fan in the right front fender and a Setrap 72 row center cooler in the front valance. Looks like heat may be an issue at the Q, hopefully not so much at big tracks where constant air-flow may help a bit.

First bit of advice was to swap the Euro fender cooler for a radiator-style cooler (more surface area), which I'll try. (Anyone out there got a 84-early 89 front oil cooler?)
Second bit of advice was to improve airflow by air-damming around the fender oil cooler system; which I'm in the process of doing. (BTW: I already have the headlight-delete air ram system installed)
Third option is a 3rd oil cooler in the left front fender. Yes, a little one since the battery box takes up a little room. (Might have to relocate the battery and go bigger).
Fourth Option: Also contemplating a way to put a Behr or similar oil cooler where the power-steering pump used to go on the 3.6L engine.

Other ideas??

On Snickers, I had a cooler in the right fender well (à la 84-89 Carrera), although it is an aftermarket cooler (Earls 50-row).
Even with the headlight bucket hole, and removing the turn signals, it ran hot. I added an identical cooler on the left side,
with the same headlight and turn signal treatment. Had to remove stuff related to fuel evaporation, but problem solved.

I don't know if the Carrera (or similar) cooler fits on the left side, but it might be worth looking into.

Definitely replace the 18 row,
Drive faster for more air flow.

On my 3.6L 993, I removed the cooling fan on the stock oil cooler and added a second stock cooler in the left front fender where AC condenser use to be. Now, my car always runs cool, even in the heat at Pahrump.

I have a template for the lower cooler block off plate that you can come by and borrow.
I think that and a real Carrera cooler will do wonders.
Ask me about my cooler as well...
I might have changed my mind since we last spoke about it.

Great! I'll be in touch. Thanks, Steve.

Thanks to everyone who chimed in. I'm on a roll with this and have some great ideas thanks to all of you.

We'll see what the April 17 AX will bring. :burnout:

If I remember correctly, it should go something like this... "Heheheheheh, Hahahahaha!!! I shouldn't be able to do this!!! Wheeeeee!!!!"

Thanks! I've got a Carrera cooler for the F-R fender in the works, and a Setrap cooler installed in the front Valance already. With the Carrera cooler+fan, and some additional "windage" around the cooler, I should be able to solve my problems.

Thanks for the lead. If I can stay long enough on the track, I might make it into your rear-view mirrors. :roflmao:

Yeah .. okay ... that's funny ......

See you in Corner 1. I'll be that large windshield that fills your mirrors. .... unless you're running slicks, too. :surr:

Dan Dan Dan....The dynamics work like this: You have more HP , More Torque, and more stick than I... so you are supposed to win, however, if you don't...

See you soon! 8)

Dan A., Dan A., Dan A. You really shouldn't try to get into my head. It's empty!

BTW: I like your new clothing accessories line. I saw a blue cap with white "LA" letters on it. Does "L.A." stand for "Loser Andrews"? :roflmao: (You really shoulda got that 3.6, ya know :banghead: ).

See you in the corners ...

Dan,
What does your oil pressure gauge read after the 3.6 install, any difference @ idle or other RPM's?

Is the new oil cooler going to be in series with the existing one?

What is the AN size for the lines you are going to use to the new cooler?

The other 3.6 install I know of has a thermostatic fan on the fender cooler, have you considered the same?

I'm just curious, I dream of doing the same 3.6 install someday too in the rosy world of the fuzzy future.
Thanks, Ted
