A question for the 924 / 944 Guru's

Postby Mmagus on Fri May 07, 2010 9:24 am

I apologise for a tiny bit of re-posting, but am not getting any thoughts on this in my other post. I make supplication to the lords of the forum begging forgivness  and hope to recieve an answer here.
I have a therory, unproven at the moment, that the electric window mechanism in the 924 and 944 are not exactly the same. I say this because both previously problamatic one and the exact duplicate replacement, installed exactly in place with the window was perfecly in the tracts allow the arms to come out of the guides midway through the window cycle. I believe they might be 944 units. Are the lift arms in the 924 indeed slightly shorter? Or perhaps the glass is 944 and the track are placed differently? Help. :surr:

Mark:

Cal Neal at LDM. Neal owned Carrera Auto Body for 16 years, is a well-known restorer of rare and common autos, and knows a great deal of auto esoterica. He may know, for instance, that the curvature of a window glass can vary from year to year, or that the hardware materials changed, causing problems in runners, etc.

His number: 619-516-5845. Hours are typically 9:00 to 6:00 M-F.

If he's not out flying his plane, or looking at another project in a barn in East County, he'll answer your questions, or recommend taking a look at it himself. Most of the time his diagnostic reviews are free.

Tell him I sent ya.

Thans Dan!
I'll give him a call next week. In searching the net re: parts I keep seeing the same unit as universal fitment, so perhaps I am being a bonehead somehow, if so I just can't see it, as everything is in the only place it can be mounted.

Doors of 924 and 944 are the same. There might be a difference between early and late 944 parts though. 924S always uses early 944 parts.

I have both window regulators out of my '88 924S that you're welcome to if you need them. I'm in Anaheim or you can send a few bucks for shipping. They worked fine when I removed them.

I just spoke with Neal who was very helpful. He said that to his knowledge the regulators did not have a production split. Genikz I greatly apreciate the offer, but am thinking that they will be the same. Neal believes that the channel mounted to the glass are out of position, (perhaps they got shifted by the mechanism during un-mounted window rolling?) They can be repositioned but according to him, it is "not for the feint of heart". Fortunately I am fearless in my attempts at mech'ing and will give it a go this week. He did find my strap rolling system worth a chuckle and said, "Well, you've just made it into an RS" :lol

hmmm. passenger window in that car works fine. I installed a window regulator out of a junkyard 944 when I replaced it.

Just takes some cuss words. so say a prayer or what ever you have to do... but cuss words were the only thing that worked for me.

(it takes patience to get the track...regulator... and the stupid rollers lined up correctly if you get them out of wack)
