Michelin lets the air out of tires

Postby ttweed on Mon Jan 24, 2005 6:33 pm

Ran across this development in tires at Michelin on the web:
http://www.fourtitude.com/news/publish/Industry_Tuner_News/article_983.shtml

"Increased lateral stiffness by a factor of five"... "vertical stiffness (which primarily affects ride comfort) and lateral stiffness (which affects handling and cornering) can both be optimized"...."enabling new performances not possible for current inflated tires".... and "Checking tire pressure, fixing flats, highway blow-outs and balancing between traction and comfort could all fade into memory" are a few of the notable quotes. Is this the tire technology of the future?

Awesome new technology. You have to love a new idea and while it might not be "pretty" to the eye now, would it be if it improved your track time by 4 seconds? Boy, when one of these rips apart.....
