Interior racing mirror - Wink or convex?

Hi -
I think I need to be prepared to see Bob Erman/ Steve G etc. zooming up behind me earlier. I'm wondering what you racers prefer for an interior mirrror which will be mounted to a rollcage on my 86 Carrera. It appears the choices are either the Wink mirrors or the Longacre convex models.

While I'm at it, I will ask the age old question, does size matter (mirrorwise)? Actually what size do you folks prefer?

Pete:

The main difference between the two is distortion. The convex mirror distorts the image and does not give a true representation of distance; hence "objects in this mirror are closer...blah blah" I am told that you can get used to it with experience. The wink provides an undistorted view and is a really great option if you get the mounting right. Depending on your application, you might have a big good looking guy staring back at you (your results may vary) right where you would like to see what is directly behind. In certain cars with the correct application I think this can be mitigated. You should sit in a few different cars with each kind and see what you prefer.

Pete,

Why would you care what is behind you anyways ?   (mirror - distraction and extra weight)

I have a wink mirrior that I have yet to install. I've mocked it up and think I will like it a lot. However, Jae snapped this big thing on my existing mirror that is pretty cool (more visibility than stock without the distortion, but not as much as a wink). But I didn't get much of a chance to use it last weekend :(.

Martin - You're right, driving focus should be forward rather than backward and passing is much more fun than getting passed.

Note to self - watch out for Martin blocking

 I will be there, patience. I have been told that the roll bar will be ready in 2 weeks. (I could have learned how to weld in the mean time and built it myself  )

Oh, that's right TT isn't about the first passing the line. So, I will have to loose my Schumacher and Mansel habbits of blocking. :?

I really like my Wink mirror in the '73E, Pete. I use a 5-panel and it covers the whole area under the roll hoop (this does obstruct upward vision out of the windshield, though, which is only a negative in street driving.) You can see out the side windows with it, so it really helps you know when you're past someone and can move over on them if necessary, to retake the line.
