What is the ballpark life of a 997 clutch in miles? Never tracked, no jack-rabbit starts, no riding the clutch etc. Maybe poor shifting technique, but in general easy on the clutch. Being told I am within 10% after about 36K miles, seems low to me and I recognize there are other factors--just trying to get a feel as to wether I should be outraged or resigned--and the motor is opened up for other stuff, saving labor. I don't know at what point the dealers replace clutches. Here is picture of my clutch assembly after 30k miles and it's looks like it would last another 30k miles. I upgraded mine for a racing clutch assembly. Personally I wouldn't change it before I felt it slipping; for example when shifting from 2nd to 3rd under hard acceleration.

BTW it's for sale if anybody is interested.

I don't like percentage measurements as they are too subjective.

Here is how it is measured.
Note: Pad thickness measurement must only be done on the flanged side of the rivet head.



Place a commercially available depth gauge on the clutch lining 1and measure the distance to the rivet head.

The wear dimension -X- measures 0.3 mm . If a smaller value is measured, the clutch drive plate must be replaced. When new the measured value is more than 1 mm .

So there is about .8mm useable thickness. If it has 10% left the measurement is .08mm + the 0.3mm minimun so .4mm for value X.

Thanks for the input on 997 clutch wear, I bit the bullet and had it done, next time (30-40K miles) I suspect I will not and wait.
