Anybody know the widest 16-inch tire sizes I can put on my 911sc with 7 & 8 inch wheels?
Thanks.

Dave:

For track, there are several soft compound DOT tires in 245/45-16, and some in 255/50-16. Those all work on 8" rear wheels.
the 255/50 are taller, and not as crisp.

There are also Kumho 710s in 265/45-16, and Hoosier R-6 or A6 in 275/45-16, but those are specified for 8.5" minimum.
While you might be able to squeeze them on an 8" rim, it would probably wear funny.

Fronts typically are 225/50-16 on the 7", although you can find some 215/45-16 tires. Probably the most popular setup,
and the one with the most tire choices would be the 245/45-16 rear and 225/50-16 front.

HTH.

Does this mean Jeffrey's project is running???

Another option Paul did not mention is that Nitto NT01 also comes in a 245/50/16.

The larger option is 9 inch rear Fuchs and 8 inch 944 Turbo (rear) Fuchs used up front.
That allows the use of the 265 or 275 in the rear and the 245 up front.
Overall though, the 16 inch wheels and tires are becoming dinosaurs and fewer and fewer options are available. But it is also the size they are using for 911 Spec classes which may help to keep tires available.
17 and 18 inch wheels have more options.

Thanks all. And yes, Jeffrey's project car is alive, running, and passed smog thanks to Steve Grosekemper. And wouldn't you know, I was wrong about the wheel sizes. (Gotta read the numbers on the back, not measure the rim width! There was so much crud that I didn't see the numbers.) So I have 6 and 7 inch, not 7 and 8. Thus, I'm pretty much stuck with stock tires.
