What Weltmeister for 924S? (Update)

Postby Mmagus on Sat Jul 16, 2011 5:57 am

Hi gang. Among my brainstorming/dreaming about Tuffy I had the possibility in mind to eventually put a Weltmeister Sway bar up front. The break on models with them comes at 1985.1 and 1985.2 and I am unsure which Tuffy would take. It is a 924S and has Steel A arms so is it like the rest of the 924 clan and take the Early? Or since it is basically a 944 with a 924 skin, does it take the Late? Tim? Leigh?

Help!

Mark:

The earlier 944 version fits Tuffy, not the later one.

Be sure it's what you want. They used to make a 25mm and 28mm. the 25mm is good, but I'm not sure it's still available.
The 28mm is VERY stiff, and requires a substantial rear sway bar to balance it out.

You probably want to get adjustable bars for at least one end of the car if you are going to upgrade them. The 968 m030 work well on 944.

Thanks guys,

Jad: I currently have the 26.8 Front bar paired with the 19mm factory adjustable rear. So have been able to get what I feel is a good balance, after driving Tuffy for his timed laps at Chuckwalla Mark R. agreed. When I had asked you about it you mentioned that unless I could adjust front and back, that you felt it was good as is as well.

Paul: Most of the Spec folks in our group are running the 30mm front and 22mm rear, which is probably stiffer than I think I need to be. I have noticed that many of the gang at the 944Spec organization run my current setup, so I may actually be where I need to be. I asked because I came across a 28mm front and thought, "Hmmmm not as stiff as the 30, and adjust-ability at both ends!" I cant find the link, but have the gents email, I think though that it may be a late model I wrote the him today to find out.

I will update you when I know.

Thanks again for the input!

After cheking with the gent I found that the bar was indeed a late model one so it would not work. :( the up-side to it is that I found Paragon still stocks the 28mm early at their site...if I really wanted to pay retail.

Thanks for the great input gents!
