Roll / Harness Bar

I'm looking for a "bar" and harness for my 01 Boxster S

I looked on Brey Krause but they didnt offer anything. Any suggestions on where I can find them, would be aprreciated.

Tim, there is a BK roll bar extension that is legal for PCA. Normal racing harnesses will fit on your roll bars. Not sure what the issue is or possibly you are trying to do something else?

I just assumed a complete bar was required in order to hold the harness in place.

Basically im looking to add the harness to both sides so I can compete in DE & TT (as well as stay in one place in my seat at AX).

I would like to NOT drill any holes and would like it to be removable. I currently just have the stock mounts, so I need the complete set up.

If you have something that fits this criteria, please show me.

Tim, the rollbar extension is no issue; however, installing belts properly will require drilling in the center console area and with the sub-belts. Some folks attach their sub belts to the seat mounting points which is really not safe but does avoid drilling. If you get a technical inspection and someone sees that you have installed them that way they may not pass your car.

Bottom, line, to be safe and correct, you will need to drill a few holes to install harnesses correctly.

Kary is correct and drilling holes sounds really bad, but they are drilled in the carpet and once the hardware is removed, you would not see the holes as the carpet covers them over. You could also replace the carpet when you sell it which completely covers the holes and freshens the interior for a couple hundred dollars. You really shouldn't let a couple small holes keep you from having a LOT of fun. It is painful to do, but once done, you probably will never think about it again.

While drilling holes and using backing plates probably is the safest way to go, the rules do not specifically require it. You are allowed to use a Brey-Krause R-9001 Tunnel Side seat belt mount for the interior lap belt. For the exterior side lap belt you can replace the current bolt holding down your seat belt with an "eye" bolt that will hold down the stock belt and provide a clip-in point for the harness. For the sub-strap you can use a "y" type which makes your harness a 6-point. The "y" strap attaches to the floor with the front two bolts currently holding your seat down to the floor.

OK I understand the need for drilling into the car for safety reasons and i'm good with that.

Do I need the roll bar extension?

Is there a method for making this system partially removable? I convinced my wife to allow us to purchase this car based on the fact I would get to use it on the "weekends", and she would use it during the week! She probably would struggle with having the "harness" if she is running errands or uses it to go to work.

Lastly: any recomondations on where to have all this done?

I can help you with the parts. there are go shops around San Diego that can do the install properly for you like Black Forest, Dieters, or Mind Over Motorsports.

Tim,

If you are drilling holes you will need:

1 BK rollbar extension
1 or 2 sets of harnesses
depending upon number and type of harnesses you will need som hardware (eye bolts and backing).

That is all that is needed. The shops know so they can quote you the labor for the install if you tell them you want harnesses installed and roll bar extension.

For the rest, I was told this was okay by people in charge and I know of many cars running this way that get through tech repeatedly for autox, DE and tt events.

Of course, this only counts for PCASDR run events, POC, SCCA, NASA and others may be different.

Rick, you are correct, other clubs like POC will NOT allw this if they see it. I would recommend for TT at a big track that folks install these belts properly in the event of a crash.

1 BK rollbar extension

Please note: The BK extension is only required if you need it for clearance. And you will only get that clearance without it if you are short like... say... Jad . Most people wont meet this requirement without it so it is assumed most Boxster owners need it.

The harnesses can be shoved out of the way during non-use. They can also be removed easy enough if they are not out of the way enough for your wife. Once you get the hang of it, a couple minutes per side for the lap belts. The shoulder and sub belts are easily moved out of the way.
