Vandals broke off part the Carrera emblem on the deck lid of my 993. I want replace the emblem. What is the best way to remove the broken piece without damaging the paint?
Thanks, Tom

I believe they are attached with double-sided tape. I would try a heat gun (hairdryer) to soften the glue and then a piece of strong dental floss worked under the emblem from side to side, or a stiff plastic squeegee to pry up one edge and peel it off. 3M adhesive remover (naptha) should also be able to soften and remove any adhesive without damaging the paint.

Or apply the model delete option retroactively and remove the rest of the emblem and residue, then polish it all up. You know it is a Carrera, why give someone a crack at stealing or breaking the next emblem?

Use dental floss

Use dental floss to cut through the double-stick tape thats holding on what's left of the old emblem. Then use any gum remover (e.g., Goo-Gone, lighter fluid) to clean off the residue. It's a common operation on Boxsters, which tend to lose the lower-left tail of the Boxster's "B".

If you want to leave the emblem off, note that the paint may have changed color behind the emblem. I tried that with my Arena Red Boxster, and I could see a ghost of the emblem for several months. Eventually, it all blended in.
