Car numbers

I need to get some new (removable) car numbers. What do people find works well? My old ones are magnetic, and I end up taping them on because they tend to blow off at higher speeds. Online, at least one supplier says their magnetic numbers are intended for speeds below 70mph (mine were a gift, so I didn't know this).
Thanks.

Dave,
Talk to Martin Reinhardt.
He has the info and can make the numbers.

Almost all magnetic numbers are only good up to AX speeds (70-80 or so). If you are using magnetics on bigger tracks at speed over 100, you need to tape them. I usually taped the front edge and top and bottom edges. You don't need much tape, but they won't hold at high speeds without some tape.

FYI, I do generally tape my magnetic numbers as a good insurance, but not always and have never lost one even at 150 mph. So, the quality and strength of the material does vary.

So where did you get those 150 mph numbers, Jad? (Though I won't be going that fast myself -- don't I wish.)

Unfortunately, I believe they were a gift from Chris Huck and Pioneer Porsche. I think they were promotional items from Automotion 5 or so years ago. If I had the source, I would have given it, but I just know the strength and quality do vary significantly, but haven't bought any in 5-10 years, so all I can say is good luck :beerchug:

At most retail establishments you won't know the manufacturer of the magnets, but what you want is the thickest magnet material from Magnum Magnetics. Others may do as well, but their material performed the best in my tests.

I think 30mil is the material that works very well.

Yes, agreed on the thicker mag material. Used to do this for a living. Many places sell the thinner 20 mil, but the 30 mil is stronger. Another trick is to take an exacto razor knife and bevel the leading edge of the mag sheet for better aero, thus less lift. You'll probably gain 2 seconds a lap........
