3M Film Removal

Postby tim997 on Thu Mar 15, 2012 1:54 pm

I want to remove the film protection from the nose of the Carrera in order to work on some stone chips. I understand from research so far that this leaves a glue residue that can be time consuming to remove. After the paint repair another film will be installed. Is there any advice out there regarding film products or vendors? I am still trying to decide DIY or take it to a pro. The film has been in place for about 4 years.

A heat gun to soften the film and a lot of 3M adhesive remover on the residue should take car of stripping the film--I wouldn't hesitate to undertake that part of the job. Applying it well is another story. For the installation after the paint retouching, I would take it to Modern Image. I have only had them do that kind of job once, but I was satisfied with their work. They are also a WW advertiser (p. 35 in the last issue).
