Has anyone installed a B&M short shift kit? Rumor has it that the short shift kits don't perform as expected. Any thoughts / comments are appreciated.

I saw a B&M in a Corvette that worked very well. Very notchy in the shift but very positive. Took a bit of strength but it was very good in my opinion. Have not used one on a Porsche though.

I guess the first question that you need to answer is why do you want one? If you would like your shifter to feel notchy and require more effort with an increased chance of missing a shift, then by all means get one. I have heard that they also wear out your shift linkage due to the increased stress, but I have no imperical evidence in that regard. I have tried them in a boxster, 993 and 964 and remain unimpressed.

David, B&M does not have a short shifter for a 993 or 964 last I checked on for the 986 and 996 forward. The 993 and prior cars a doomed to the RS short shift kits which are much different than the B&M set ups.

Kary: my comments were meant to be an over-reaching indictment of short shifters in general. I was not besmearching B&M in particular, though I think they suck too.
