Replacing chain tensioner oil line with AN line

While replacing the oil pressure sender on my 911, I managed to cracked the thin oil line to the timing chain tensioner. Needless to say, I got a running stream of oil when I started the engine. I probably should've disconnected the cam oil line from the sender block first before loosening the oil pressure sender :oops:

But when I looked at the oil line and the banjo bolt to the tensioner, they look pretty fragile. I have a feeling they could break simply from engine vibration, or slight stretch of the line, or over torqueing the bolt. The result could be catastrophic at the track!

Has anyone tried replacing the factory lines with AN lines? It seems AN fittings and flexible high pressure lines would make a sturdy setup. I'm thinking of running -4 line for the cam oil line and -3 for the tensioner line to match the size of the factory lines. Is it a good idea? Any downside you can think of?

Thanks in advance.

There is an update for those lines that includes:
* New oil line
* New "L" shaped bracket
* New line clamp
* new 3mm bolt that ties it all together.
(Left and right side are different)

This kit keeps the line from vibrating and cracking that would result in the leak you describe.
Once installed you will likely never have an issue with them.
These are all factory parts.
Update is a good idea for a street car, but mandatory for a track car.

Steve, I see I have all the parts you mentioned already. Yet I still managed to crack the oil tube. Maybe this is just a user error. So you're saying if I just replace the oil tube to the tensioner and hold it with the bracket and clip, it should be fine for the track?

Thanks,

Fred,
Yes, if it broke it was probably twisted or suffered some sort of trauma during engine disassembly/assembly.
Replace the tube/lines and I will take a look at it at Chuckwalla on the 18th.
1-93010734702 Left side line
1-93010734809 Right side line
Use 4 new 9001311530 washers and coat them with anti-seize.
If the banjo fitting twists while tightening it will break later-be careful.

Thanks Steve. I replaced the right side oil line. The banjo bolt was twisted so I got a new one also. I've learned to tighten the lines carefully to avoid stressing them. Also have a spare set just in case.

See you at Chuckwalla.

I will be there...
And I always carry a full set of lines in my spares kit.
Have saved at least 3 drivers weekends that I can remember.
(After Jae Lee and D.Q. saved my weekend several years back... it's a track CARma thing)
