Cayman Clutch Bleed Question

Postby kcheves on Mon Feb 17, 2014 4:33 pm

Greetings.

When bleeding the hydraulic line for the clutch, what is the best way to evacuate all of the brake fluid from the clutch master cylinder? Can the clutch be bled with the pedal depressed (using a Motiv bleeder), or do I need to cycle the clutch pedal while bleeding?

I'd like remove as much of the fluid as possible. I recently switched to ATE Super Blue, which appears (understanding that correlation does not equal causality) to have induced a squeak in my clutch slave cylinder, which is driving me crazy. :banghead:

My car is a 2008 Cayman with the 5MT transmission.

Thanks in advance.

Kit,
Just hook up your power bleeder making sure your reservoir is very full and open the clutch slave bleeder.
Keep the pedal up.
If you really want to flush it out you can stomp on the pedal and pull it back manually (slowly).
But do this only after bleeding the brakes first.

It would be unlikely to have the ATE blue cause a squeak. more likely the push rod.
If your noise is there after bleeding remove the slave cylinder from the transmission (Hose attached) and lubricate each end of the push rod and reinstall it.

Good luck

Following up on my original post.

I bled my clutch today, and all went well. It may be a coincidence, but my squeaky clutch immediately resolved. I had read reports that Ate Super Blue could react with the clutch slave cylinder gaskets and cause this type of squeaking. It's probably irrelevant since Super Blue has been pulled from the market.

Anyway, thanks for the advice, I'm back up and running.
