Serious Track-related Questions

Postby Old Guy on Fri Sep 04, 2015 10:28 pm

Howdy,

Looking forward to embarking on some track activities (Spring Mountain in late October (LA BMW club but with both our M3 and our GTS)) for example). Accordingly, I have some "serious to me" track questions and/or discussion topics I'd like to ask about and/or discuss. Examples: track familiarity and local SD simulators; brake pad recommendations; tire and wheel choices, location logistics, fuel service, local SD source for filming windshields...just a few to start with. My question: is our local Chapter's forum energetic enough to have active discussions on these topics? Or do I need to refer to Rennlist or wherever?? And if "wherever" - where? Thanks.

Standing by,

Jim

PS: My info is that the LV PCA chapter goes to Spring Mountain several times/year. Maybe I should join that chapter??? Yeah, LV is far away, but we have family near the track, not to mention that I garage our M3 there...hence my focus on SM.

Jim
When you register for a SDR time trial/DE you get sent a drivers event letter from the chairs.
It is a 24 page all inclusive document that should answer any questions you might have.

I will email you a copy from last January's event at CVR as it is most relevant to our next event.
Read it and then see if you have any questions.
Also talking to TT/DE drivers at the next AX could be a great resource for you.

Update: besides Steve's document, I'm also working my way thru the DE info (lots of it!) on the pca.org website. Combined with BMW on-line and event-specific info, there is a lot of material to study.

Run a TT/DE with SDR and you'll be spoiled for life. Very well organized and consistent from event to event. Follow the directions in the letter and you will have a great time. :beerchug: Failure to follow the directions and suggestions may result in a less than satisfactory experience. :banghead:

I know that I can't wait for Chuckwalla and Buttonwillow this fall.
