2009 cayenne battery replacement

Postby Dave Diamond on Mon Mar 14, 2016 11:48 pm

My Newly purchased 2009 cayenne s has the original battery, according to prev owner's service records. PO recently had it checked by dealer because of somewhat weak turnover and it was found to be within specs (I have the dealer's record). To me the turnover at start also seems a little less assertive than I'd expect, but I've never heard how one of these is supposed to be. I'm going to some colder places soon and may replace it preventatively. Do I need to get an "AGM" battery? According to one web site, the battery has to be "registered" via Pwis so it charges properly after installation. Is this truly necessary? No other online instructions mention this. Finally, should I connect a 12v source to save the computer settings during the swap?
Thanks.

I have a 2009 Cayenne. Replaced battery with one from O"Reilly. ($150 plus core). Looks like it is a "49EXTJ". I did not connect a 12v but it might make sense. I don't remember having to reset any codes. You need to remove the drivers seat (torx? bolts). Dealer wanted several hundred dollars labor to do.
