Clutch problem

Postby JayG on Fri Jun 17, 2016 5:55 pm

I was driving along and shifted and all of a sudden the clutch felt different.

Instead of engaging at the top, it now engages down at the bottom, almost all the way down.

Car has 81k on the original clutch and the worst part is I am supposed to do a HPDE with my son at Streets of Willow tomorrow.

It does shift, no slipping, just engages and disengages way down at the bottom.

I did have the clutch bleed 2 days ago and just drove 160 miles to get up to Lancaster

If I do track it tomorrow am I in danger of damaging anything?

I already have a new DMFW for when I change the clutch, just was not expecting to have to do it now

Any ideas?

Hopefully an expert will weigh in, but does it still engage smoothly, just lower down?

If so, I would re-bleed the system. Sounds like an air bubble is keeping the clutch from disengaging much, thus it re-engages very low.

If the engagement is bad, I wouldn't drive it more than necessary.

Thanks Jad

It's slipping a little, but drivable.

sipping and a low pedal means the clutch disc is coming apart.
80K is like clockwork.
Clutch just got moved up on the schedule.

You speaka da truth.
I guess I am lucky it started to fail before I got to the track instead of on the track

Got home safely and it's started slipping more

The question is which kit to get.

I have been looking at the Sachs kits online and found lots of different part numbers that all seem to fit my o4 986 S
3000 951 201
K7029001
98611691102
18014-05057243

What in the wide world of sports is the right one ?????

Hmm, a 986S.
Yes, I am familiar with that car.

These are all the same part with different numbers depending on who sells it to you.
3000 951 201 - Sachs
K7029001 - Independent vendor internal part number
98611691102 - Porsche

These I can't speak to as I have never seen these numbers.
Probably just different vendors.
