RE71R 18" rear tire size for Cayman

I'd like to put RE71Rs on my 2010 Cayman S. The 18" wheels currently have 235/40 and 265/40 which are the stock, factory sizes. The RE71Rs come in the front size but no 265/40, only 265/35 or 265/45. I'm leaning toward the 265/35s. I know these will throw off the speedometer a bit. Anything else I should take into consideration? Will the nannies or PDK get confused by the unexpected rotational speed?

Thanks,
-Terry

If you've got 20 points to spare, or don't care about your classing, I'd run the 255/35-18 on the front and 275/35-18 on the rear, Terry. That worked really well on my Cayman S when I had it.

YMMV,
TT

HI Terry,

Last year I ran the 245/40-18 and 275/35-18 combo without any issues. Glad to see the Cayman on track, save that nice Carrera!

Thanks for the replies Tom and John. I don't want to go crazy on points and since it doesn't sound like going from 40% to 35% tire height on just the rears will cause any nanny problems, II think I'll stick with stock widths at first and learn to drive the car.

Thanks,
-Terry

So where did you guys get your RE71Rs mounted? I asked my Discount Tire and they won't put a 275/35/18 on the rear because the stock load rating is 101 and this tire is only 95.

Hi Terry,

I do all my tire shopping at Tire Dynamics, 4585 30th St, San Diego, CA 92116 Phone: (619) 280-9500. Ask for Ray, he can normally get any tire within a few dollars of Tire Rack pricing.

Terry,
A lot of us get our tires mounted at:

Bear's Tires
7023 Carroll Rd - Unit A
San Diego, CA 92121
858-453-2999

They are not too far from Mirage International
They don't care if you bought them there or not. A lot of PCA, POC, SCCA and NASA drivers go there.

Thank you John and Chuck. I've been to Bear's once to mount 225s on the 911's 9" wheels, which Discount wouldn't do. They were quick and pleasant but a little far from me in Oceanside. Know of a Bear's equivalent in North County?

Now Bear's Tire

I have frequented Bear's for years, purchased and/or mounted at least 20 sets of tires, 2/3 of those R-comps. It's like having your own F1 pit crew--fast! They don't worry about load ratings, wheel studs, etc. It's your choice, your issue.
Only once did they mess up when they lost my wife's fancy logo valve stem caps...

If you are N county inland, I have been using Levi's Tired on Center City Pky in Escondido for years to mount my tires. They are good, fast and cheap. Usually in and out in less than 30 min
Never had any issues with anything from them, including no damage to wheels

Thanks for the tip.
Have you had any success with them doing 19" wheels? or just 18" and smaller.
