Steering wheel extension for 911 SC

Postby Dave Diamond on Mon Apr 03, 2017 4:30 pm

I have the seemingly common problem with my 79 Targa that the steering wheel is too far away if the seat is far enough back for my legs. Does anybody know of an extension that would allow me to keep the stock steering wheel? Most cars I've seen use an adapter-extension and then an aftermarket Momo or similar wheel, sometimes a deep-dish version. I'm ultimately open to doing that, but I kind of like the larger diameter stock wheel. I've seen a factory-issue extension mentioned on some forums, but no info on how to find one.
Thanks.

You are looking for an extended hub steering wheel for 911's.
944 and 928 use different splines :surr:
Probably eBay or Pelican or other 911 board would b best bet to find.
I ended up using a deep-dish after-market wheel on my Carrera Cab

First: good luck solving the problem. I don't have an answer. Second: count your blessings. The 911 SC's steering and related switch gear locations are problematical. Years ago, due to the location of the steering wheel stalks on our '79 SC, while braking at the end of the main straight at Summit Point I some how hit the wipers stalk. When the wipers unexpectantly came on I lost my concentration and by the time I got it back it was too late for the 270 degree right curve turn at end of the main straight. Spun that sucker like there was no tomorrow...but, fortunately, did not leave the pavement. No black flag. But was I humiliated? Yes. For sure.
