Dry rot tires

Postby Famous Jay on Mon Sep 18, 2017 3:28 pm

Hello, I have some dry rot between the tread of my front tires, no dry rot on the side walls, and the tires are 5 years old. Fortunately or unfortunately, they have a lot of tread left. Should I replace them immediately? More so, I am asking because I am wondering if they would pass tech inspection for autocross. Please advise.

Those are really borderline to pass tech as they are cracked but only the top layer and not circumferential.
If you came to tech you would "probably" be given a one time waiver and would have to sign a form saying you are responsible for whatever happens.
That being said... those tires should say "Flintstone" on the sidewall.
Any tire that dry has no stick left; auto crossing those will be a lesson in frustration.
Put some new tires on the car and enjoy the day.
