Has anyone tried these tires and what do you think?

Sumitomo HTRZ, HTRZ II
Kumho Ecsta SPT, Supra 712, 711

I use the supra 712 on my 850 turbo Volvo. I just ordered another set as the last set has worn out over the past 4 years. I think they are good for road and wear very well. As you can see I ordered them again so I must like them

I had 712s on my old 84 944 before. They wore out in 15,000 miles due to bad alignment that I didn't even know about :shock:

But they should last a good 20,000 on the street. As far as track goes, they do get slippery when hot. But then again, what doesn't?

I'm looking for a tire I can drive on the street with good wear and run DE events with. It does not have to be a TTOD tire. I would like something under $100 each for a 16" 205 and 225.

I would look at the Kumho Ecsta MX and the Yokohama ES100 for your stated purposes. The latter is under your price range ($81 and $86 at Tire Rack) and the MX is just a bit more ($98 for the 205s and $115 for the 225s.)

Falken Azenis, but they only have the 205 size.
Check out this month's Grassroots Motorsports as they compare several street and R compunds for Ax times.

I liked the ES100's on my Boxster. Rode well, handled well and were priced well. Not the best at anything, but a very good all around tire. I would buy them again if they fit the 996.

Jad your comment about the ES100s is giving me more security on my choice to run that tire. I look forward to running them for the next event. I have them on the 928 and love their grip for the street. :rockon:

John:

I ran the Kumho MX in 205 & 225 x 16 for a bit over a year, doing
Time Trials and street driving. They are fairly forgiving, from the
standpoint of pressure, and even more forgiving on driving style.
If you're really rough (lots of sliding), they do suffer, but much
less than the sticky tires, of course. We'd get about 12 hours
of big track events on them, and they ran smooth and wore
well on the street also. They were cheap - $80 - 100 per, if I
recall. Other info - Treadwear 220, we flipped them on the rim
to extend life (low camber car), and the car was a 2900 lb
911. They would be my first choice for a zero-point tire.
