RE-71R tires tested against Nitto NT01

Postby jbrennen on Sat Jan 09, 2016 12:14 am

The article:

http://www.prima-racing.com/bridgestone ... -part-two/

Short answer is that the RE-71R is basically the same performance as the NT01, even though they have a different feel and both could have benefited from some suspension tuning.

In the end, the data indicated that the delta between the two tires was non-existent.

This won't do anything to quiet the debate about whether the RE-71R is a 200 TW cheater tire. However, anybody who saw what good drivers were doing at 2015 AX events on RE-71R tires is probably not too surprised.

And to think I just bought a new set of NT-01s... I could have driven in CC10 with the RE-71Rs... D'oh!!

I suspect that under certain conditions (cool track), the RE71r is even faster than the NT-01. Where the Nitto still rules is in heat and durability. You do pay 20 points for that benefit though.

I'd take the RE71R over the Nitto every time. Nitto's don't really handle heat that well and although they never run out of tread, they do run out of stick way too soon.

YMMV. 8)
