March Chuckwalla hotels booked?

Postby Dave Diamond on Mon Feb 06, 2017 6:52 pm

Stupid me. Didn't reserve for both Chuckwalla dates back in January. Best Western full, Motel 6 says $161/night. :banghead: Tennis tournament in town they say. Anybody else have better luck elsewhere? I hate driving to Blythe again.

Days Inn Indio, $116/night with AAA discount. Breakfast. No bedbugs mentioned in reviews. I often can't leave until late on Friday, and this beats going all the way to Blythe. Still considering tent camping at track.

I look at it this way, if you are not staying at the track and staying in Blythe, you really have just 1 extra leg, Chuckwalla to Blythe on the way out. After that is actually a little shorter than driving back and forth to Indio.
On the plus side, you save $$ on the hotel, Blythe averages $65 or so, gas in Arizona is a whole lot cheaper and on the way out on Friday, you can check in at the track, get your spot inth paddock and not have to get up quite so early Sat morning.

Yea, there is more to do in Indio area, but hell we are going the to track our cars, not sightsee

The way I calculate it, Blythe adds 2 hours and 100 miles of driving compared to Indio, which also adds 2 hours and 100 miles compared to staying at the track. So Blythe is 4 hours and 200 miles extra other than having to get gas if staying at the track. $180/ night at the track is a lot, but so is the time saving. Will try it in March and decide what is best.

Hmmm a little bit of new math I guess.

I guess on the way out Friday, it does add 2 hours and 100 miles compared to just staying in Indio Friday. Other than that, you still will need to drive from Indio to the track, 1 hour/50 miles each day each way, virtually the same as the track to Blythe. So my calculation is you are only adding 1 leg of 1 hour/50 miles total, not 4 hours/200 miles total.

Sure staying at the track does eliminate going back and forth from either Indio or Blythe on Sat (2 hours/100 miles) and 1 leg Hotel to track on Sunday morning. Either way, you still need to drive from the track back to Indio on the way home Sunday

Gas savings is huge Track price ~ $6.00 for 91 vs under $3.00 in Indio or Blythe. Sure you use some gas to/from hotel.

Current forecast for Desert Center the weekend of the 11th are Sunny, Highs ~84oF, Lows ~58oF.

Tent camping should be very doable...
