As some of you may have heard, there was an incident at Roebling Road recently at a PCA DE. The driver didn't make it, but the instructor did, however with serious injuries and could use some help.

if you've ever done a track event with a volunteer instructor in the car with you, then you know how generous they are to get into a stranger's car and try to help you go faster and safer. On rare occasions, the "safer" part doesn't work out. Here's an opportunity to be generous back.

Re: DE Instructor PCA coverage

Postby Greg Phillips on Thu Feb 22, 2018 2:27 pm

Info from PCA about instructor's coverage:

There has been much speculation on the internet about the recent incident in Georgia where an instructor sustained significant injuries. At this time we do not have facts about the cause of the incident, but the incident is being investigated by the local authorities. What we do want to clarify is that PCA does maintain $1,000,000 in excess medical coverage for such cases that will cover medical expenses in excess of personal health coverage. This includes deductibles and co-pays that the personal health coverage does not pay. PCA’s excess medical coverage is there to make sure that in the rare case of injury to a participant, the participant is not concerned with medical expenses.

Thanks for sharing that Greg — good to know PCA has our backs.

Of course, it doesn’t sound like the extra insurance will cover things like his wife traveling from Orlando to Georgia, lost wages, costs of temporary housing for family, sitter for kids if necessary while his wife is with him... all that extra stuff that really adds up.

Nice to see the notes from fellow DE instructors and regions from all over the country... it is a great club!
