Charles: Here are some thoughts from Terry Barnum, and I think I can safely say that most or all of us out in attendance concur with Terry:
Pros:
- Excellent pavement. I was told that CSUSM repaves every 2 years.
- Deluxe bathrooms
- Classroom for meetings available
- Could work as a PDS venue
- Close to us North County folks
- Could eek out a slightly larger/longer track than SCCA did
Cons:
- Small/Short. When I left top times were ~25-26 seconds.
- No shade
- Dry campus--no alcohol on-site after events
- Did I mention small?
Allow me to add:
Easy highway access.
The classrooms would be great for chalk talk if we were to hold a PDS at CSSM.
The smaller course levels the playing field, so to speak, because we can't build up as much speed as at the Q. I heard Tom Gould mention that he thought it might be a good teaching venue.
Although we would not be allowed to quaff a few celebratory brews during awards ceremonies, there are some nearby new great pubs (e.g., Urge Gastropub) and lots of other restaurants where we could gather for dinner and brewskies after the event, unlike the Q where there's not much in the immediate vicinity.
This venue is more cost effective.
There is a Costco an easy 3 miles away and lots of other nearby stores closer, should we need any supplies.
