Best place to get tires mounted on 17" Fikse Fuchs?

Postby fjamoroso on Sat Mar 07, 2020 8:20 am

Greetings all,

I'm about to pull the trigger on a set of 8.5 & 10.5 X 17 RSR finish Fikse Fuchs. I will look to have 225/45-17 and 265/40-17 PS2s mounted up.

I would like to avoid any damage to the wheels during mounting. Which shops are recommend / trusted in San Diego and / or North County?

*Edit*

As soon as I posted the above, I remembered that Charlie's does mounting & balancing. I'll reach out to Niko. That being said, post other trusted shops if you got 'em.

Thanks,
Frank

Hey Frank,

Going for Zuchs? Cool...

Lot’s of folks use Bear Tires, but I’ve had good and bad experiences there.

I’ve used Discount Tire on Midway... and same experience... often fine, but there was also the time they mounted the 9” rears on the front of the RSR...

Recently I’ve been using the Firestone at Fashion Valley... so far so good.

Each shop seems to have one or two guys who know what they are doing, so ask for that guy.

BTW, I tried the PS2s on the GT3 and was not particularly impressed... fine street tires, but not up to AX/Track use. Those are a really old design. The P4Ss have a higher tread wear rating, but are a modern design and much improved. Obviously availability of sizes will be the primary determining factor...

Smart man.
Sorry you had to find out the $$ way.
Wish they made the PS4s in 295-30 X 18

Hey Craig,

Yeah -- kinda knew what I was getting into, but wanted to try the GT3 in a "Street Stock" class first to set a baseline. Of course it would make more sense to baseline it on Cup 2s... but our PCA classification rules prohibit street stock classes from running on stock tires of less than 200 TW... ahem.

In any case, now running 245/35/18 and 315/30/18 Toyo R888Rs in CC12, with a "no excuses" track alignment (as Jae Lee calls it) ;-) Would be running 255's on the front if I could find a decent set of wheels in 18x9" for the fronts.

That, as they say, is more like it!

Unfortunately, much like the limited availability of stock late 930 / M491 sizes, there aren't many choices in 225/45-17 and 265/40-17. PS2s are available in those sizes. Who knows for how long tho.
