996.2 targa

Postby Carrson on Thu Oct 16, 2025 11:35 am

I found a 996.2 targa on FB marketplace the other day and I want to get in contact with someone who can tell me if this is going to be a good deal or something I should buy or not, currently I have a 944 project car but I'm looking to upgrade to a 996 and this listing seemed like something almost too good to be true.

Listing in question:

Looks like they did a real nice job with paint restoration/repaint, interior looks decent. Two potential negatives depending on your wants- Tiptronic auto trans is just ok, not great. No mention of IMS bearing retrofit. This is a pretty critical necessity with 986/996 motors so if not done, I would have it addressed right away. Otherwise a 996 is a really fun car to drive.

I have almost that exact same car 2004 996Targa with a Tip ~ 120k miles
Its a fun car for DD driving, not a track or AX monster

IIRC, they made only around 500 Targas in 2004 MY

The Targa top is basically a large sunroof. Make sure its all working correctly including the sunscreen. Its BIG $$$$$ to fix

996's are great value
