Greg:
Yes, U-Haul asks about your towing vehicle. Check with them if the vehicle you are planning to use is approved by them. For example, I recall hearing that they do not accept the use of Ford Explorers because of the "tire" problems they have had. You might also have to buy a plug-adapter to fit their electrical wiring, which they have available at their store. Very important, if you you rent from them, load your vehicle backwards as the front section of our "low" cars will not go over the end lip they have on their trailers. I normally rent a trailer from them to take my car to the track, what they call "vehicle transport" trailer and they are difficult to deal with as they do not like to rent trailers other than for a "one-way" transport. Make sure you make a reservation in advance so that you know you will have a trailer. Not all U-Haul stores have them so you will have to find a store that does. The trailers weigh about 2000 lbs and the rental is about $50.00 per day plus an optional insurance of $8.00 per day which covers your trailer and the vehicle you are loading on it. As said, it is optional but I normally take it, just in case.
