The RA-1 is a harder compound, but with the Hankooks available in 3 different compounds per size and per model, you can choose what is best for your car and type of racing. A C50 compound is perfect for autocrossing PCA-style (multiple back-to-back laps) for most cars, heavier vehicles or those that are hard on tires can try the C30 compound. C70 is used for race qualifying (or sprint races in colder temps) or SCCA-style autcrossing (time between runs for cooldown and pressure maintenance). I still think that the C50 is the most versatile.
My Subaru is rediculously hard on tires (no camber, terrible geometry, heavy car) and I put 50 hard laps on my Z211's, tires still look great except for outside edge-wearing....in fact, I have barely broken the mold-release agent off of the inside of the tires. Last SCCA event I won by 3.5 seconds, and was Top-10 BRI/PAX index in the "slowest-classed" H-Stock.
At these prices, give them a try (if they are still in stock), you will not be disappointed.
