New helmet . . . where to check them out?

Postby sean996 on Tue Jan 23, 2007 9:54 am

Hey all,

I need to buy a new helmet . . . been told I should go try them on . . . where is a good place to do this?

I've been doing a little research and might partial to the Arai.

Want to be able to wear sunglasses and am also thinking full face . . . any reccomendations and input appreciated.

Thanks,

Sean

By all means, try them out. Different manufacturers
and models will fit very differently, even with the
same size. You do not want a helmet that is not
comfortable.

For glasses, the full-face versions with larger
eye-ports are nice. I have a Bell M-4, but Paul Jr.
has a Pyrotect, because the Bell didn't fit him
nearly as well. You just can't buy one online.

Local shops - JMC (formerly Dave Turner) and I
think Mind Over Motorsport are two possibilities
(I have no affiliation other than as a customer).

I just got back from JMC-Dave Turner and Dave was really helpful deciphering all the different choices I had within my price range.

Paul is right I tried on Bell, Simpson, Pyrotec, and I think one other brand, and they all fit differently in size and shape.

I was looking online for a deal and was going to go there to check fit and found their prices to be equal to anything else I found after the shipping factor and all. (On the models I was looking at) Besides I would rather spend money locally.

The Bell M2 is great for sunglasses as is the new Simpson.
But you must try them out. I am glad I did as the helmet I went to buy is not the one I came home with...

I got a 2005 Pyrotect from Dave Turner last year, and it is fine for sunglasses, although I have to remove the helmet to take them off or put them on.

Turner's prices were competitive with what I checked elsewhere.

My neighbor was telling me about another shop in the Kearney Mesa area, C2 Motorsport. They have a good webpage and he said they had helmets to try on at the store.

Just a thought, perhaps Dave could come down on Saturday with some helmets to sell, I'll bet he would make some sales.

Dave is a great guy . . . he had to order what I wanted but gave me one to "use" 'til it comes in.

I bought my helmet from Steve Coe at C2 Motorsports. He is a good guy (He is a friend of my my next door neighbor, so I thought I would give him a plug), and he has tons of racing experience including several years with DanGurney's All-American Racers during both GTP and Indycar eras through current participation in SCCA Autocross and road racing. He just finished setting up the BMW club with helmets. His shop also has 4 networked ps2s with steering wheel setups and gran turisimo 4 - fun stuff!

C2 MotorSports is at:
