Why is the "website" field in my Profile locked?

Postby PShipman on Wed Sep 05, 2007 10:57 am

Just wondering why the "website" field in my profile will not accept any entry ... don't want any dog sites??? :surr:

It is because of your higher status as a 911 owner??? NOT ... but perhaps

I see it in there but when I go that field the underlying codes is set as
Code: Select all
 <input" type="text" class="post" style="width: 200px"  name="website" size="25" maxlength="255" value="http://www.pcasdr.org" readonly="true" />

Sorry about the quote (") after INPUT ... couldn't figure how to get the CODE id to work without it :-(
Anyway ... for some reason I get readonly set to true which I figure has to do with the car I drive or the company I keep

FYI, my website field is also grayed out, so it is not 911 specific.

Kris,
You need to fill in your PCA membership number and join date before you can make any changes. Then the field should open up. No changes can be made to old accounts without the PCA membership number. Do this during business hours so I can help if it locks you out.

Perry,
Your account looks totally normal from my end and you have all the required fields. Try driving your car backwards after draining all the water out and see if that helps...
Or just send me the URL.

Now Steve ... I truely don't intend to give you a hard time ... but it seems to me that there is a possibility that the forum software might have, as Microsoft likes to say ... ah ... a Feature ...

Is is possible that some folks have a different level of authority? For instance ... you ... as a administrator have administrative rights ... perhaps the folks with "authoring" (or something like that) rights have their page set to readonly="false" while folks who are defined as "general users" (or something like that) fall into the readonly="true" group???

I am only curious as I just hate to not understand why something is doing something ...

One last note ... I notice that many of the folks with oodles of posts (as in been members a long time???) seem to have far more websites defined than those who are, perhaps, newer ... has there been an upgrade to the software in the last year???

Anyway ... none of my business, really ... just love to ferret out Features :-)

Oh. there are features alright...
Yes, there was an update this year with severe security measures taken as we were inundated with so much spam we couldn't see straight. Since the "change" the spam is virtually gone.
And yes, there are administrators who have complete control (like me), and "authors" who can just post so it is possible you and I are not seeing the same thing.
As for newer and older accounts, they are different because we changed the sign-up procedure.

The updates are canned so every time we update we have to make all the "custom" changes all over again and sometimes they don't work the same with the newest version, so we try to keep the fixes to a minimum.
basically if it is a real problem we try to fix it, if it is a "feature" we live with it as the forum works pretty well as is.

We don't have a problem making changes for you if you are having a problem... just don't be surprised if it takes awhile as we all have other jobs.

Before asking for help, make sure your PCA number and join date are correct and current in your profile.

No hurry; I actually don't want to post a web site in my profile. I am merely trying to help debug the feature. :)

Even after updating my member number and join date, the web site field is still disabled in my profile.

I can't get to my website window either. I though it was an evil Windows conspiracy towards the far superior Macs

Steve ... thanks for the great explaination ... with all the updates, etc. ... I am GLAD that you (and others) are "administrators" and the rest of us can let you do the upgrade work!

Thanks for administrating and for the explainations!
