Yep, you are reading it correctly. No, it was not me. Third fastest recroded lap ever behind Michael Andretti and Nigel Mansell. Drivers name was Phillip (something), British guy. Car was a 1994 Tyrrell, Judd engined ex team Minardi car. Keep in mind the guy did this on fairly used up tires, in traffic, although I am sure he had a clear lap when he did that time. He had done a smidgen over 1:09 earlier in the day. His crew clocked him at 187 in turn 8. I don't know what he did through 9 but he was flat hauling you know what! Pretty neat to watch, and a gorgeous weekend over all. Just think what one of the new F1 cars could do!

That sounds pretty impressive Mike...
Must have been quite a show.
I've been to several F-1 races and the sense of speed is just amazing!
Was it Phillip Strattford Mike?

Steve,

That would be him. Car has a slightly different paint scheme, but the same car / driver. He is no slouch behind the wheel, that is for sure. Going around 8 and 9 at those speeds ain't for sissies. He told me that he thought he might be able to pick up another second if the track had a white line on the inside. He said going around 8 it is such a blur and the car is moving around so much it is hard to tell where the track pavement ends. Yikes!!! The only thing bad about WSIR with that kind of speed is if the driver makes a mistake, look out. Not near enough run off for 180+mph, unfortunately. Very neat to watch however. I would like to see him run that at CAL Speedway.
