Harness and Seat rules for 2008

A place to hang out and discuss all things Porsche.

Postby Bob Gagnon on Thu Jan 31, 2008 9:43 am

Jad is right, this is no time to question the rules.

Having said that, I think it is a rare bird who reads the fine points of the safety rules since most are concerned with class points changes only.

So, my question is why does a 5 or 6 point harness have to be replaced in 5 years and a factory belt replaced in 20 years?

Where is the data to support that spread of years? One seems short, the other too long.

Bob, this is not the time to be questioning anything. :)

However that's a good question. :)

I can see that Dave had a great time at the Eastern Races ... I wonder if he and his brother are like the preverbial Alaskan hunting party ... sit in a cafe drinking lots of whiskey ... ready to watch a race if a car happens to come by :roflmao: That is probably why he is still having problems telling anything appart!

Seriously, though, the Evo's would also look great in Ron's new Spec Car ... I wouldn't you, Dave, toooo hard a time if you confused Ron with me over the seats! :D

I've seen data, especially on harness manufacturers sites, about the breaking strength of the material falling off sharply over years of use / exposure. From what I've read five years sounds like a decent average. Factory information is a little harder to come by and I really have no comment on that. I will say that the materials used in harnesses and the way the they are designed to work are drastically different in their design and purpose then factory belts.

The Grateful Dead were Dead when they were recording. It was just the drugs that kept them going. Look at Keith Richards another great of the era. The only reason you see him on the stage is the drugs have not allowed his body to realize he's dead. Look at him he is a prime example of Undertakers skills with makeup.
