Car status...

Postby 4est on Tue Sep 23, 2008 9:42 am

Having been asked, here is where I am with the car: I am in the process of installing +2" fenders on the front, and an EVO 1 front bumper. The bumper has two ducts for Oil Cooler air and two for Brake air. I am not sure yet as to how I will conect the brake duct to the wheel well. I also stole a genuine Motorosports GT2 Banana Wing off eBay for an absurdly low price. I am figuring out how to mount it to a factory steel engine cover. I could just fab up some plates and mount it on my Supercup wing, but I would prefer to leave that one stock and make something cool. If anyone remembers the MindOver shop car configuration; something like that. The car looks good; the front fenders look about as wide as the rear (C4S), and it has a balanced, burly look. When it is finished, I will paint it myself (again, so don't look too closely). The car won't be ready for the next TT, but should be ready later this year. Time is the main thing unavailable to me right now, with money always a close second.

The MOM car used a steel decklid with brackets welded to it that aluminum plates slipped into. The problem with brake cooling hoses
is there is no room to run them to the brakes. When the wheel is at full lock the tire will crush the hose. You can run the hoses as far as possible and point it at a deflector thar routes the air to the brakes.
Good luck,Mark

For the brake air, I was thinking about just routing the air via hoses that terminate on (and through) the inside lower corner of the front fender liner. This would at least dump cool air (and a fair amount) into the wheel well near the inside of the wheel. I selected the bumper for the ducting to the oil coolers and the downforce. When I get the rear wing sorted out, Getty Designs (who made the bumper) makes a lip addition that extends quite a bit. According to them, the base bumper provides enough downforce for the Supercup wing but the banana wing will want the lip extension for balance.

Any suggestions for a machine shop that will fab the uprights? I want them CNC'd and plasma or water cut and bent right. I will mock them up in posterboard.
