PCA-SDR attending Monterey Historics 2009 - Placemarker Post

Postby KeithV on Wed Jan 07, 2009 6:35 pm

This post is to announce that PCA-SDR has reserved a total of 33 rooms at a Hotel in Monterey to enable members to attend the 2009 Historics weekend with Porsche as the featured marque.

The rooms are reserved for Thurs August 13th thru Sat Aug 15th - the idea being to caravan up from San Diego on Thurs 13th, to participate in the Porsche Corral at the Concorso Italiano on Friday 14th, then to attend Laguna Seca for Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th returning to San Diego on the afternoon of Sunday 16th.

There will be an option to stay over on Sunday night as well - enabling us to spend all day Sunday - either at Pebble Beach Concours or the full race day at Laguna Seca.

This post is intended purely as an initial notification and placemarker - where further details (room rates, ticket prices etc.etc.) will be added in the near future.

I am sure there will be numerous questions, but for now I request that if you are interested in attending the 09 Historics, please mark your calendars, hold off on questions for now ....

........ and watch this space!!! :)

Summary of Monterey Historics weekend:

What is Monterey Historics weekend all about?

For those of you who don’t know what the Monterey Historics weekend event is about, here is a summary in my own words:

Each year in Monterey there is a one weekend event where owners of classic and historic racing cars get together and run their cars on the famous Laguna Seca raceway and each year a particular make of car is selected as the featured marque. It is very common for the manufacturer of the featured marque to be represented at the event and to have show areas where their cars are on display. The net result is that thousands of examples of the featured car show up and their owners and other enthusiasts get to watch their brand of car racing at this famous, challenging track and to enjoy a weekend of numerous events of vehicle indulgence with Porsche as this years featured marque.

Re: PCA-SDR attending Monterey Historics 2009 - Placemarker Post

Postby BUCK BITTING on Wed May 20, 2009 4:33 pm

I have been trying to find out some information on this event for a couple of months now. Due to my work schedule I am unable to attend the monthly board meetings, but have E Mailed Keith numerous times with a couple of simple questions giving both my E Mail address and phone number, only to get one reply, stating he does not respond to people he does not know. I have been a club member for over a year, and even though I do not participare in the racing events, I have participated in numerous tours. If this is the type of reply a member can expect from the board, or at least by someone who has elected to be the contact person, it may be the reason the club has limited participation in some of their events, sponsered by the club. Now that I have vented, the questions I have been trying to get answered are; first I should check if any rooms are left, next what is the cost for a room, and finally is anyone planning to caravan to Montery.

Thanks to anyone who can answer

Surely, most of us (the obsessed ones) are excited about this year's Porsche Celebration at the Monterey Historics.

Far and wide, people are asking about a "Porsches to Monterey" Caravan. PCA-SDR has taken a lead in the most southern part of this state but others are also asking along the route --including a number of folks who will drive in from out-of-state to join whatever PCA puts together.

So, just FYI, stay tuned -- we already have a committment from a Santa Barbara Porsche dealership to host us at a half-way (well sorta) point along the Hwy. 101 corridor and as a meeting up point for other Porsches from other directions. Taking a short spirited drive along Highway 154 is a good way to stretch your car's legs after the first 200 miles of freeway driving. And the truly bold will continue along Highway 1 for fantastic scenery and marvelous twisties. Of course, there's always the 101 for more comfort levels of driving - and the CHP's single engine flying speed-trap. But I digress...

So far, from my end only , looks like the greatest demand is for a Thursday trip so that folks will be in Monterey on Friday morning. However, if we learn of other large groups who are traveling on Friday, we will find a way to add to their plans as well.

Keith is still your contact and leadership guy and I plan to coordinate well with whatever he already has on the table.

More to come.

Postby Michael Dolphin on Mon Jul 20, 2009 3:29 pm

Well, we're down to a little over three weeks to Porsche paradise in Monterey.....

And I am wrapping up a little bit of detail on hospitality stops for those of us who will take the "Road to Monterey" on Thursday, August 13. For those on the Friday drive instead, some of the stops will still be available and hospitable but the bulk of travelers seeems to be on Thursday of the week.

Those hospitality stops include Porsche-friend hosts in Los Angeles, Santa Barbara and Cambria. a by-the-roadside pickup likely to occur at the 126 and 5 Freeway intersections in Santa Clarita just north of Los Angeles. Details and schedules to be confirmed this week pending one additional piece of information....

The question is "From where and at what time does the staring Porsche contingent plan to meet and leave for the most southerly caravan?" Knowing that will help me to guesstimate times and stops along the way. The idea is to pick up cars along the way and grow the group as we go.

Questions? I may have a FEW answers. I also may have an insight into a Panamera "ride and drive" possibilty as welll within a day or two... I can tell you that from my own Panamera experience that it much reminds me of a Japanese bullet train...

CLARIFICATION/DISCLAIMER -- I am not hijacking Keith Verlaque's orginal posts and plans. I'm facilating connections from Los Angeles onward and can accomodate the SDR contingent of particpants as available and willing. Just wanted to be sure that you knew that there was a "connection" to a similar effort starting a little north of SDR.
