Just in case anyone was wondering (yeah, right), I finally stopped by Discount Tire and discovered that the previous plug job done on the tire by my dealership, 2 years ago, had failed. The job they did made the tire not repairable (too large a hole).

Given that I needed to replace both rear tires and I had more than 15K miles on my tires and the tread was showing it, I bit the bullet and bought new tires at all corners. I picked up a set of the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2s. I had been pretty happy with my previous Pilot Sports that were the OEM tires, and I've read the reviews that say the PS2s are even better.

But now I've got to wait a few months before I can test 'em out at autocross (I'm bringing my "other" car to the other car autocross)!

Why don't you join us for the January time trial at Streets? Not being that fast of a driver hasn't stopped half of us from participating. You'll get a season's worth of AX time in one day at the track. That's one way to get faster and a lot safer than driving fast to work.

Two reasons:
1. no harnesses, just stock 3-point belts
2. no fire extinguisher

I did a DE on a track in Chicago two weeks before I moved here, and it was alot of fun, but Chicago doesn't require harnesses in the novice and slowest experienced classes, and fire extinguishers are only recommended, not required.
